Dr. Andreas Weigend is interested in the impact of the social data revolution on individuals, business, and society. He was the Chief Scientist of Amazon, now teaches at Stanford and UC Berkeley, and directs the Social Data Lab.
Andreas works with innovative startups and global companies, helping them ask the right questions, define relevant metrics, and understand their customers based on their data. His clients include Alibaba, AT&T, BMW, GE, IBM, Lufthansa, MasterCard, Tencent, Thomson Reuters, Walmart and the World Economic Forum.
Andreas studied electrical engineering, physics, and philosophy in Karlsruhe, Bonn, and Cambridge (UK). He received a Ph.D. in physics from Stanford, working on neural networks, and was a post-doc at Xerox PARC.
His career as a data scientist combined with his industry and startup experience allows him to successfully bridge the gap between academia and industry. His book Data for the People will be published by Basic Books in December 2016.
